R&D OUTFIT AMBERWAVE is suing chip giant Intel, claiming that the silicon giant nicked some of its big ideas and jacked them under the bonnet of the 90nm Pentium.

AmberWave, from Salem, filed a complaint against Intel Corporation in the federal district court in Marshall, Texas.
Amberwave said that the two cases involve two proprietary techniques developed by AmberWave engineers to increase the performance of semiconductors.
It says that Chipzilla is using these techniques as part of the strained silicon technology incorporated in its top-of-the-line 90nm Pentiums. Apparently, talks between Amberwave and Intel over a license agreement with AmberWave broke down.
In a press release AmberWave CEO Richard Faubert said: "Intel has been using these proprietary technologies without a license from AmberWave and we have no choice but to defend our intellectual property rights." It claims that Chipzilla infringed US Patent No. 6,881,632. It is also filing a counterclaim against Intel in the federal district court in Wilmington, Delaware, alleging infringement of U.S. Patent No. 6,831,292. Intel has asked the court to confirm that it has not infringed this patent.
