AmberWave Systems Listed in the IEEE Intellectual Property Rankings for Second Consecutive Year

New Hampshire-based Company has Highest "Pipeline Impact" Ranking in Designated Category

Salem, N.H. - January 23, 2009 - AmberWave Systems, a leader in the research, development and licensing of advanced technologies for semiconductor manufacturing, was included in the IEEE Spectrum's 2008 Intellectual Property Impact list within the Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturing category for the second consecutive year. The rankings were announced in the December 2008 Issue of IEEE Spectrum, accompanied by a full-length article by Patrick Thomas and Anthony Breitzman, entitled, "Patent Prowess."

The compilation of rankings and patent impact was provided by 1790 Analytics, a Haddonfield, N.J. company that focuses on analyzing patents and intellectual property. This is the third year in a row that 1790 Analytics provided the data for IEEE Spectrum.

According to the study and ranking, AmberWave Systems had 10 U.S. patents issued in 2007, with an overall "Pipeline Impact" score of five - which is the highest Pipeline Impact score achieved in the Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturing category. AmberWave Systems is the only company on the list who achieved that high of a pipeline impact score. Pipeline Impact indicates how frequently all 2007 patents cited a company's patents from the previous five years.

AmberWave Systems is the only privately held company on the list of 20 major semiconductor players that includes Applied Materials, Novellus Systems and Tokyo Electron.

"We are very pleased to be ranked with so many well respected companies for the second year running," said Richie Faubert, president, CEO and chairman of AmberWave Systems. "This continued achievement is a testament to the innovativeness of our research team, who continue to bring important new technologies to the market."
